Glenville Nutrition Clinic
Nutritional and Herbal Therapy
Dr Marilyn Glenville has some lucky clients. She is at the forefront of dietary and herbal interventions for menopause and hormonal imbalances and has been for over 30 years. She was the first to describe the immense value of phyto-oestrogens in the diet. These are primarily soya and legumes which, when taken in the food, replace the fading oestrogen levels in the ageing woman and balance hormone levels in younger life. We can be truly in harmony with our environment if we know how. Many other plants and foodstuffs have other hormone stabilizing properties; a concept difficult to comprehend in the pharmaceutical sense but well-known over the millenia to wise women and herbalists. Plants such as Black Cohosh, Vitex Agnus castus and wild yam feature heavily in Marilyn’s prescriptions for a healthy hormonal life and menopause.
Marilyn treats all manners of health and well-being since health and well-being stem from a healthy diet. Our busy lifestyles, constant stress and decreasing food quality means that we all need some input to get the best out of life. It is the times of change of hormones that are the most destabilising. Puberty, pregnancies and the menopause all drastically alter the physiology and all require different inputs when dealing with issues arising from such intense changes.
Nutritional Consultations
When you book your nutritional consultation – either in person or online – you will be sent an online (or printed) health questionnaire to complete ahead of the consultation. This allows you to express and explain your reason(s) for seeking help. Aspects of your current medical health can be itemized to form a structure for the consultation to follow and to ensure that nothing important to you is missed out. Past history can be included along with family history. This gives the nutritionist an idea of the impact of genetics, stress and life events on your body. A simple dietary recall of the last few days intake will give the nutritionist an idea of how and what you eat.
One of Dr Glenville’s highly trained and experienced nutritionists will spend time to go through your questionnaire before you arrive so that at the time of your consultation they will have a good understanding of your lifestyle, medical history and health condition. Dr Marilyn Glenville oversees all of the questionnaires and will ensure that her therapist will complete the physical consultation in the fullest possible manner. The consultation itself will take about an hour.
During the consultation they will discuss more deeply with you your current situation and assess your individual needs and where necessary recommend appropriate functional nutritional tests to check for deficiencies or imbalances you may have. Very often investigation such as blood tests, urine and stool analysis will be suggested to investigate concerns that arise and to monitor improvement. Most blood tests are finger-prick. Blood tests can be performed at Bijoux so there is no need for extra travel.
After the first consultation some changes to your diet may be suggested along with the recommendation of supplements, herbs etc. You will be able to appreciate how this will improve your general health and look forward to resolution of your symptoms in a natural, sustainable way.
At a follow-up four to six weeks later your test results will be reviewed and your personalised treatment plan updated according to any abnormal results found. . At any time you may call for an update or reminder of aspects about your treatment (eg how often should you take the supplements?). We all forget.
Age changes; inherited but not inevitable
Genetic influences may influence our response to age, stress and trauma but are not as important as we previously thought; perhaps only 20%. Our genes may predispose us to certain disorders but we can change the outcome with simple dietary and lifestyle awareness.
Inflammation is the key driver to our decline; modern diseases such as pre-diabetes, dementia, raised blood pressure, thyroid issues, arthritis, auto-immune disorders and so on. Inflammation comes from our diet, environment and lifestyle – it is the fire within us.
Identifying and quelling the source of inflammation will reduce your chance of developing these so-called degenerative diseases.
All of our consultations will look at lifestyle and the source of inflammation in your life; all therapists will be able to offer advice on how to reduce these damaging factors and enhance your quality of life.
Nutritional Blood tests detailing your inflammatory status are easy to perform and can form the basis of a true anti-ageing and pro-health prescription
How long does it take for results to show?
Changing your nutritional intake and improving your physiological response can take a few weeks or even months. Results may take a while to show. Improvement can be shown by a change in blood, stool or urine tests but make not be so obvious from day to day. Some people like to keep a symptom diary to remind themselves of the slowly increasing benefit of the changes that you make. Rest assured, if you follow the recommendations then you will see a benefit.
