Cellulite

Often described as having an “orange peel” or “cottage cheese” texture, it typically appears on the thighs, buttocks, and hips.

Understanding Cellulite

Cellulite is an incredibly common concern, affecting up to 90% of women at some point in their lives. Often described as having an “orange peel” or “cottage cheese” texture, it typically appears on the thighs, buttocks, and hips. Despite being frequently associated with weight, cellulite can affect individuals of all body types and fitness levels.

What Causes Cellulite?

Cellulite is a complex structural issue occurring beneath the skin’s surface, driven by several factors:

  • Fibrous Bands (Septae): Tough connective bands tether the skin to the underlying muscle. When fat cells push upwards against the skin while these bands pull downwards, the signature “dimpled” look is created.
  • Skin Laxity: As we age, a decrease in collagen and elastin makes the skin thinner and less resilient, allowing the underlying fat and fibrous bands to become more visible.
  • Hormonal Influences: Estrogen plays a key role in blood flow and collagen production; fluctuations in this hormone can weaken the skin’s structure.

Poor Circulation: Reduced lymphatic drainage can lead to fluid retention and metabolic waste buildup, exacerbating the appearance of lumps and bumps.

Our Recommended Treatments

At Bijoux Medispa, we utilize a multi-layered approach to smooth the skin and strengthen its foundation.

  1. Sofwave™ for Structural Firming Sofwave is a breakthrough for cellulite because it addresses the “thinned skin” aspect of the problem. Using Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPER™) technology, it heats the mid-dermal layers to stimulate a massive surge in new collagen. By thickening and tightening the skin, Sofwave provides a smoother “canvas” that better masks the unevenness underneath.
  2. Exilis Ultra 340™ (RF & Ultrasound) Exilis is a powerful dual-technology treatment that combines Radiofrequency (RF) with Ultrasound energy.
  • Fat Volumizing: The thermal energy helps to shrink fat cells, reducing the pressure they exert against the skin.
  • Skin Smoothing: The controlled heating further stimulates collagen fibres, improving the skin’s elasticity and helping to soften the appearance of the fibrous bands that cause dimpling.
